Program Notes

Music’s ability to tell a story has inspired generations of composers. Franz Liszt depicts numerous scenes of the life of an unnamed character in his famous orchestral work Les Préludes. Our main character is represented by a common musical theme. Through varying changes and treatments of this theme, Lizst tells the story of the ups and downs, triumphs and turmoil, and occasional serenity experienced throughout this character’s life. Tchaikovsky expands on this idea in his powerful and dramatic Fifth Symphony.

Ruth Kim - Violin Soloist

Violinist Ruth Kim will join the LFCO to perform Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1.

“As a soloist, performing with the Lake Forest Civic Orchestra allows me to express my personal musical interpretation of Prokofiev's piece. The classical, modern, motoric, and lyrical balance of his first concerto shows the various sides of my stylistic point of view and it is an honor to be able to present this to an audience with LFCO.”
